In preparation of Earth Day, we will be creating all-natural Plant Stamps! By using raw potatoes and flowers, the possibilities are endless. Let’s get to plant stamping!
You will need:
- Potatoes
- Knife/Xacto Knife
- Paper
- Paper Plates
- Paint Brushes
- Paints
- Flowers (we used plastic, but you can use real ones as well)
To Begin:
- First, grab your bag of potatoes – the potatoes will be used to create our all-natural stamps. Prep your potatoes by washing them and cutting them in half.
- Next, using a kitchen knife, xacto knife or cookie cutters, draw the outline of the shape you wish to make. Some examples of shapes we used are Easter Eggs, Hearts, Bunnies and Pineapples! But don’t let that limit your creativity – you can make anything you’d like!
- Once your shapes are traced, use your knife to slice the bits and pieces of potato off that you don’t want to pick up paint – remember, anything that is raised will be a part of your stamp!
- After you’ve prepped your potatoes, grab your flowers (real or fake), trim them, and set aside.
- Now that our plant stamps are prepped and ready to be used, we can start stamping! First, squeeze the paint onto the paper plate. By using a paint brush and a generous amount of paint, cover the part of the potato you wish to be seen.
- Stamp away!
- As for the flowers, simply dip your flower face-down into the paint color of your choice – make sure it’s coated!
- Next, gently press the flower to the paper – you may have to use your finger to help it stick to the surface. Carefully pull the flower away from the paper and you’re left with a beautiful flower! We also repeated the process with the leaves, drew stems and created a pretty bouquet!
