Today we will be learning to make a super simple, super cute craft that everyone will love – Sock Bunnies! Sock Bunnies are great for cuddling, gifts and our favorite feature – they’re microwavable! Pop your Sock Bunny in the microwave for 30 seconds and you have yourself a miniature heating pad for your aches and pains.
Sock Bunnies are easy to make and only require a few tools!
Supplies:
- New Socks
- A Bag of Rice
- Twine
- Ribbon
- Scissors
- A Marker
- Cardboard Tape Tube (optional)
To Begin:
- Choose your sock – this will determine the color and look of your Sock Bunny.
- Pour or scoop your rice into the sock. (Optional: place your sock in the center of the tape tube. Stretch and wrap your sock around the tube to enlarge the sock opening. This makes it easier to pour your rice in the sock.)
- Make sure to fill enough to make the body of your bunny. Be sure to make your bunny as big or as small as you’d like in this step.
- Next, cut a piece of twine. Wrap your twine around the sock, above the rice.
- Again, pour or scoop your rice into the sock – this time creating the head. Be sure to make it smaller than the body.
- Cut another piece of twine to tie around the top of your bunny’s head.
- To create the tail, bunch up a small section of sock and rice; cut and tie another piece of twine around this small nub.
- Next, trim your twine tails so they aren’t visible.
- You should be left with a tuft of
sock on top – this will be the bunny’s ears! Using a good pair of scissors, cut your leftover sock down the middle and trim to shape them into long ears. - With your sharpie, mark two dots to make the eyes and an “X” for the nose.
- Last, choose your favorite ribbon to tie a bow around your bunny’s neck.
There you have it! Sock Bunnies!
Toss ‘em around, give a squeeze or pop ‘em in the microwave!
