Happy Friday!
This week’s activity is good enough to *almost* eat – miniature gingerbread houses made from terracotta pots! You can try, but we don’t recommend munching on these adorable little ornaments.
You Will Need:
- Miniature Terracotta Pot
- Paint Colors of Your Choice
- Paint Brushes
- Cup
- 1/2 inch Ribbon
- Scissors
To Begin:
- Start by peeling the sticker, if you haven’t already, from the bottom of your terracotta pot. There should be a hole on the bottom of the pot – it’s important that it’s not covered as you won’t be able to turn your terracotta gingerbread house into an ornament.
- Next, turn your terracotta pot upside down on a napkin or paper plate. With your white paint and paintbrush, paint the trim of the terracotta pot.
- After the trim has been painted, you’ll want to paint the “roof” white as well. Add some drops of white paint to create icicles.
- Using whatever color you think looks best, paint a door and windows.
- Next, add filler elements to your home – candy canes, gumdrops and trees. You can even paint white dots to give the effect that it’s snowing.
- After your pot has dried, choose your favorite 1/2 inch ribbon and cut off a piece roughly 8 inches long. Tie the two ends of your ribbon together to make a large knot. String the loop up through the hole. The knot should secure it in place.
- Another fun idea would be to add a bell to the inside!
- Ta-da! Hang that Terracotta Gingerbread House up!
